Dear Anne,
Welcome to the first Lifelong Faith Newsletter. Each month I am going to focus on one issue important to the development of  lifelong faith formation in congregations. The newsletter also gives me the opportunity to announce new resources and services. I hope you like the newsletter and will visit the Lifelong Faith web site: www.lifelongfaith.com.

Why Is Intergenerational Learning So Critical for the Future of Faith Formation?
Why is intergenerational learning so critical for churches today? It is my belief, and that of many religious educators, that every congregation today needs to incorporate intergenerational learning into its faith formation curriculum. Passing on the Faith Passing on the Faith: Transforming Traditions for the Next Generation of Jews, Christians, and Muslims is an important new book that is the result of a 2004 international conference at USC, "Faith, Fear and Indifference: Constructing the Religious Identity of the Next Generation." The book includes original essays by international scholars that explore the challenges of passing on faith today, summary reports on three recent n ational studies of youth and young adults, and direction for passing on faith to the next generations of Jews, Christians, and Muslims. The report on new research on young adults conducted at USC, "Congregations that Get It," is especially helpful. Available from the publisher, Fordham University Press, or Amazon.com.
