CHURCH SAFETY QUIZ
1. What would you do if you needed help during Mass?
The ushers are available to assist you if you need help. Just go to the rear of the church and tell one of them what the problem is. If it is a medical emergency, ask them to call 911. Many of them know who is a nurse or doctor in the congregation as well.
2. Do you know if and where there are any first aid boxes?
Yes, there are two first aid boxes in the Church. They are located in the vesting sacristy off the foyer (where the priest gets ready for Mass) and in the room to the right of the altar (where the Eucharistic ministers prepare for Mass).
3. Where is the nearest phone?
It is located also in the vesting sacristy on a table just inside the door on the right. You must dial “9” for an outside line.
4. Where are the nearest fire extinguishers?
As you enter the church, the nearest one is to your left in the corner right next to the Reconciliation room. As you look to the “wings”, on the right, there is one in the corner on the left hand side. The one on the left “wing” is in the corner next to the exit door. All three are well marked with a sign and an arrow pointing down.
5. How would I get out in case of an emergency?
Take a moment and look around you. Usually we all have a favorite place to sit when we come to Mass each week. The exits to the outside are: the two main front doors and the door off the left “wing” (facing the altar). You undoubtedly know that the door off the right “wing” leads to the Parish Center, and you would need to go downstairs to exit the building. If the main front doors are blocked, you could exit down through the stairs off the little room opposite the vesting sacristy, which leads to the basement of the church. The windows are wide enough to also use as an escape route.
How did you do? All it takes is a moment of your time to be aware of your surroundings, but could save you and your family precious minutes in a real emergency.
